Places of interest

Important landmarks that distinguish Almuñeca r from other town are the historical buildings that were built during the defining moments of the town. These include the San Miguel Castle , and the Encarnacion Church .

Marina del Este
Situated in the corner of Costa Tropical , Marina del Este is a luxurious complex comprised of apartments over the leisure port, and has under its wings an array of establishments such as restaurants, supermarkets, bars, golf and tennis clubs, and others.

San Miguel Castle
This is considered to have been built in the Phoenician times and is one of the landmarks that vividly tells the history of the town.

Encarnacion Church
Designed by Juan of Herrera , the architect of King Felipe II, this church was an important and impressive work of its time, especially considering that there were less than 1000 inhabitants living in the town. The inside consists of small chapels to either side of a wide aisle, leading to the main altar where the statue of the Virgen de la Antigua, patron saint of Almuñecar , resides.
